OLMC Burraneer: Technology in the Classroom – Leading the Way……Channel 10 News Item
From the start of 2025, Our Lady of Mercy Catholic College Burraneer reviewed its BYOD device policy in close consultation with parents and teachers, responding to emerging research on how technology influences learning and wellbeing; community feedback recognised the value of digital tools but expressed a strong desire for balance, prompting the College to reduce compulsory 1:1 devices in Years 7–8 and adopt a “screens down, eyes up” approach that strengthened focus, deep thinking, handwriting, and teacher/student connection.
This shift aligned with research showing that early or excessive device use can affect memory, attention, and mental health. OLM is prioritising learning environments where students flourish academically, socially, and spiritually.
We have recently been on Channel 10 News plus for this initiative.
