Mount St Bernard College- Mercy Day Celebrations Honour Our Mercy Heritage

Mercy Day provided a fitting and joyful conclusion to Term 3 as the Mount St Bernard College community came together to honour the life and legacy of Venerable Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, and celebrate the enduring impact of Mercy education within our college.

The day offered an opportunity to reflect on the values of compassion, hospitality, justice, service and respect that continue to guide and inspire our community. It was particularly special to welcome the Sisters of Mercy and our newly appointed Parish Priest, Fr Roy, who visited the College, celebrated Mass with us and quickly became part of the day’s celebrations.

The festivities began with our 2026 Scholarship presentations followed by a heartfelt community Mass, where students, staff, families and guests gathered in prayer and thanksgiving for the rich Mercy tradition that has shaped our college since its foundation. We warmly welcome Fr Roy to the Mount St Bernard College community and look forward to his presence and leadership as we continue to nurture the faith life of our school.

Following Mass, students and staff enjoyed an afternoon of celebration, connection and friendly competition. Historical games and activities encouraged participation and community spirit, while the highly anticipated Staff versus Students Volleyball Match proved to be one of the day’s highlights. Fr Roy joined the staff team and embraced the competitive spirit of the match, much to the delight of students and spectators alike. For the record, and because some achievements deserve to be preserved in history, the staff team emerged victorious, winning four games to one.

Adding beautifully to the celebration was the College choir, whose performance enriched the liturgy and reflected the dedication and talent of our students. A special thank you goes to Sarah Riber for the time, commitment and care she has given to working with the choir throughout the term.

Mercy Day once again reminded us of the importance of gathering as a faith-filled community, celebrating our Mercy heritage and acknowledging the dedicated work of the Sisters of Mercy, whose vision continues to inspire generations of young people. We thank everyone who contributed to making the day such a meaningful and memorable occasion.
