The Opening Mass this year at St Aloysius College, was deeply moving, as we came together to celebrate the beginning of a new school year and recognise the International Year of Plant Health. This year aims to raise global awareness of how protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect biodiversity and the environment, and boost economic development. As we say in our College Vision Statement, “We believe in our responsibility for continuing the work of creation”, and this year we are called to focus on how we can do this better as a school community. Special thanks to Sarah Anderson (Maths and PE teacher) who planted individual pot plants during the holidays for each classroom, so that the students could all take a symbol away from the Mass that reminds us of the call to care for our common home.
