The Great Wheelbarrow Race

Students lived out the Mercy value of compassion and justice for others by participating in the annual Charity, The Great Wheelbarrow Race, with students running from Mareeba to Chillagoe raising much needed funds for Rosies, Friends on the Street.  The Mount St Bernard College, Mountain Goats, ran a very successful Wheelbarrow Race.  Completing the 140km course in 9 hours and 16 minutes.  Whilst this event is developed and coordinated by staff, the student involvement and parent and community support are what make it a success.  The students’ willingness to be involved reinforces the positive school community the College is striving to create and maintain.

CAPE and GULF Community Visits

The Cape and Gulf communities school visit is an integral part of the of the College’s enrolment and community connections projects.  Thank you to the community schools that enabled us to meet with staff, students, and families and to our existing school families who made the team feel so welcome with heir warm hospitality.  During this visit the Cape and Gulf Consultative Committee was introduced to community representatives.  We look forward to developing this relationship further as we progress through the school year.

Reconciliation Week

Reconciliation Week is an annual event in Australia that promotes and encourages the ongoing process of reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians. The theme for 2024, “Now More Than Ever,” underscores the urgent need to continue building respectful and meaningful relationships, address historical and ongoing injustices, and create a more equitable society.  MSB celebrated Reconciliation week with a College Liturgy and an afternoon of arts, crafts, sports and dancing inspired by First Nations traditions.
