NAIDOC DAY

NAIDOC Day was a special time for Mount St Bernard College to come together and celebrate the incredible cultures, histories, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It was more than just a day—it’s a chance to listen, learn, and connect. By sharing stories, traditions, and experiences, we built understanding and strengthened community bonds. It was a moment to reflect on the past, embrace the present, and walk together toward a future built on respect, inclusion, and pride. Celebrating NAIDOC reminds us of the richness of First Nations cultures and the importance of honouring them every day.

Thanks to the thoughtful planning and cultural guidance provided by our NAIDOC Day committees, the event was respectful, inclusive, and engaging for everyone involved. From the moving Welcome to Country and captivating performances to the interactive activities, cultural displays, community stalls, singing, dancing, and shared meals, every element of the day celebrated the strength and spirit of our community.

We are especially grateful to our staff, students, volunteers, and broader community members whose energy and enthusiasm made the day truly special. Their contributions helped create a welcoming space where learning, connection, and cultural pride could flourish.

The success of this year’s NAIDOC Day is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together with purpose, respect, and unity. It was a celebration not only of culture but of community, and we look forward to continuing this journey together in the years to come.

YEAR 12 FORMAL

This year’s Year 12 Formal was held on Saturday evening, August 23rd, at the Cairns Convention Centre. With a larger cohort of Year 12 students in 2025, we chose a spacious venue to ensure families can join in celebrating this important milestone. Excitement built as students prepared for a night filled with memories, laughter, and celebration.

A heartfelt thank you goes to our dedicated Formal Committee, who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to plan and organise every detail. Their commitment and creativity are helping shape an unforgettable evening for our students and their families.

The Formal is a special moment in the school journey—one that marks the end of an era and the beginning of new adventures. We enjoyed sharing this celebration with our school community and making it a memorable night.

Year 12 Graduation

On Friday, 24 October, the College community gathered to celebrate and farewell the Year 12 students in a meaningful way. The Graduation Liturgy was a touching reflection of their journey, highlighting the growth, resilience, and spirit they’ve shown throughout their time at school.

Following the ceremony, families joined staff and students for a relaxed lunch, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere. It was an opportunity to share stories, express gratitude, and acknowledge the support that families have provided over the years.

As the graduates prepare for their next chapter—whether in study, training, or work—they leave with more than academic knowledge. They carry values, friendships, and experiences that will guide them into adulthood. The school community thanks them for their contributions and wishes them every success in the future.

Prestigious Scholarship Awarded to College Dux

At Presentation Night, Mount St Bernard College proudly celebrated the achievements of its College Dux, Meenakshi Riber, who was awarded a prestigious Catholic Education Diocese of Cairns (CEDC) education scholarship from CEDC. Meenakshi has consistently excelled throughout her schooling, earning Academic Excellence Awards in General English, Mathematics Methods, Chemistry, Drama, and Geography, as well as Senior Performing Arts, Ampol All-Rounder, and College Dux.

Her dedication and hard work have already secured early acceptance into James Cook University (JCU), and the school community is thrilled by her accomplishments.

This scholarship is open to graduating Year 12 students from Catholic colleges within the Diocese of Cairns. It supports those pursuing a full-time, four-year Bachelor of Education at JCU’s Nguma Bada Campus or CQU Cairns. Benefits include full HECS fee coverage for up to four years, a guaranteed two-year teaching position within the Diocese, and ongoing support throughout their studies.
